Drama

Drama

Drama as a subject fosters an understanding of continuity and change, and of the connections between different times and cultures. It provides opportunities to explore social, cultural, ethical and spiritual beliefs, including the diverse values of Australian culture.

The collaborative nature of this art form engages students in a creative process of sharing, developing and expressing emotions and ideas. It is a form af co-operative action in which students portray aspects of human experience while exploring the ways people react and respond to different situations, issues and ideas.

In Drama students are given the opportunity to communicate in complex and powerful ways how they perceive the world. They can investigate, shape and symbolically represent ideas, interests, concerns, feelings, attitudes, beliefs and their consequences. Learning experiences in Drama are provided which involve the intellect, emotions, imagination and body, and engage the whole person. Self-confidence, motivation and self-esteem are developed through the devising, workshopping, rehearsing and performing of individual and collaborative works. Drama students create meaning by interacting actively, creatively and imaginatively through improvised, spontaneous and structured responses.

The understanding, knowledge, skills and values attained in Drama provide students with the confidence to approach a range of tasks not only within this subject but in other subject areas.

Drama students at Pennant Hills High School have the opportunity to attend excursions to places such as the Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre, OnStage, OnScreen as well as workshops with professional theatre practitioners.

The Drama facilities at Pennant Hills High School include a Drama Studio and the Multi-Purpose Centre (MPC). The Drama Studio provides intimate performance and teaching space and is equipped with sound and lighting equipment and a data projector to facilitate in-class productions and complement course work. The MPC is a fully equipped performance space which is utilised for Drama and Musical performances. In addition, the school has an extensive costume and prop room with a comprehensive collection for student use.
